Dear reader,
Now it’s that time again! Time to celebrate LungA, and honestly, I can’t
wait.

For the last eighteen years or since I was fifteen, my summers have
revolved around LungA. No matter where I have been in the world, I would
pack my things to spend the summer in Seyðisfjörður, taking part in the
preparation and construction of this amazing festival. I wouldn’t trade this
experience for anything and it has influenced my life in countless ways.

Each year, hundreds of people gather in Seyðisfjörður to take part in
creating and generating a variety of artistic projects. Then, hundreds more
arrive to enjoy the results displayed in various ways. Concerts, exhibitions
and happenings… The schedule is always an unpredictable mix of
preparations for the onlookers and the things that happen in the heat of the
moment.

LungA has been a part of formulating endless new friendships,
partnerships, collaborations and, of course, love. Oh my, all the love!
This has been a part of LungA the whole time for us. We’ve witnessed the
most magnificent love stories form and by now, we even “have” several
LungA babies. The environment, the energy, and the frame of the festival
give the perfect surroundings for human interaction of all sorts. The
proximity to each other and the magic of the nature opens the senses,
tickles our curiosity, and makes it somehow easier to open up to the new,
and most of all, new people.

All of this makes me incredibly proud. I feel so blessed to be a part of
making this paradise LungA is to me.

We want LungA to be a place of guidance and positivity, where we can
light a spark with individuals that then spread the flare around. We feel
like the workshops, various lectures, and last but not least, the youth
program we have been running the last ten years in collaboration with
Young People of Europe, are the perfect settings for these flames to grow
bigger.

“LungA Lab” is a project that has been running for the past few years where
we work with young people from all over. They are invited to take part in
this pre-LungA project which has had many different themes over the
years. “Social Sustainability,” “Empathy,” “The Community and You,”
“Culture,” and so many more are subjects that have been discussed, made
visual, and touchable as themes for different years. The themes are
relevant to all of us as individuals and as a part of our community. With
this project we try to get people to think about their own responsibility within
the bigger picture, where change can be made, and where “you” can
make it. Our goal is first and foremost to enlighten and inspire.
This year we have decided to include more people into the project. Aside
from young people coming from Denmark, England, Sweden and Iceland,
we will invite everyone to take part in open discussions and events about
the theme.

The theme of this year is “Ego” and we will approach it from all sides. Ups
and downs, Ego most definitely affects us all and the world as whole. We
will not put any frames around this, as this “ego” is open to the
interpretation of each and every one. There will be work in smaller groups,
panel discussions, exercises, and all input thinkable.

I hope to see all of you (or at least as many as possible!) and hereby wish
you a wonderful weeks, week, weekends or day at the LungA Festival.
